For decades astronomers have thought that the Milky Way is less massive than its nearest spiral galaxy neighbor, the Andromeda Galaxy.

Its not surprising they thought that. Andromeda is much more expansive and spinning faster. But as it turns out: The Milky Way is actually 15% larger and has 50% more mass!

So take that Mr. Shiny Andromeda Galaxy.
