Magnetic Putty

by admin

Spectrum recently added several ‘Thinking Putty’s to our product line, the most unusual of which was the ‘Strange Attractor Magnetic Putty’.

Putty in can

This acts like the other putties, but it has bit of iron ore mixed in with the putty. Normally the poles of this iron bits are scattered and the putty is not magnetic. But get it close to a powerful magnet and the iron bits quickly align and make the putty magnetic!

What’s even more weird with Magnetic Putty is what happens when you put a powerful magnet near the putty. Here we stretched out a bit of the putty towards a powerful Neodymium Magnet.

Putty touching the magnet

What happens next comes in a series of photos, each taken at 15-30 second intervals. The camera position was not moved, nor was the camera or putty touched:

At this point, the putty has enveloped the magnet. And now it starts to actually ‘drag’ the magnet towards its ‘body’. Its almost as if it were alive!

Fun Stuff! The putty will ‘eat’ almost any high-power magnet put within its touch. Great fun and almost creepy to watch!
