Lunar Impactor: Under 3 Days to Impact!

by admin

As you may have heard, NASA’s Lunar Impactor will hit the Moon at 7:31AM, EST, or 4:31am PST. This impact will raise up a large cloud of dust that may be visible for about 100 seconds after impact. A large telescope (10-12″ aperture) will be needed, but easily in the realm of amateur telescopes.

Sadly for us on the East Coast, daybreak will make viewing of the Impact impossible. But if you can stay awake on the West Coast you should have excellent viewing conditions.

Details on how to view can be found at the NASA LCROSS website

The Lunar Impactor also has a Facebook page. Be sure to leave a note on its wall before it hits.
