Green Lasers: The Price Drops!
by adminAbout 10 years ago, green laser pointers first appeared on the market. At the time, Red laser pointers had already hit rock bottom and had actually started to rise again. You could get a red laser pointer for under $10 without searching very hard (you still can!.
At that time, the very first Green Laser pointers came on the market. They were very, very expensive. One would have to shell out around $300-$500 for one. Needless to say, despite green lasers’ many advantages they were not big sellers except to a wealthy few.

But like most other electronics, the initial high prices would not stay that way forever. Soon there were laser pointers for $250, then $200. About 2-3 years ago the first model came out selling for a little over $100. A few models then broke through the $100 range. Now you can get a decent green laser pointer for under $100 no problem.
And the price keeps on dropping! This month our popular Galaxy Wand Laser Pointer and our Astronomy Laser Pointer both dropped $10 in price from their earlier $75 price tag.
Will laser green laser pointers ever reach the price range of red laser pointers? It is hard to say. The demand is not as high for green lasers, and most ‘cat toy’ lasers need not bother with the more demanding green LEDs. So it could go either way, but it seems unlikely to reach the lowest level that red laser pointers did.
Of interest is to watch the recent tumble in prices of Blue or Blue-Violet laser pointers. Just a year ago they were in the $500 range. Now they sit just around $125. Ble lasers are of more technical interest, as they lack green’s high visibility. But it wil be interesting to see what the future holds for the blue guys.
