Carson Optics X-View Monocular
by adminOf all the optical instruments we carry at Spectrum, perhaps the most underrated is the Carson X-View Monocular

Why underrated? Monoculars tend to get the short shrift in the optics world. Telescopes, binoculars, and even microscopes often get pages and pages of reviews covering their various strong points and shortcomings, but monoculars seem to just get relegated to the sidebar at best. The assumption being that they are for lazy folks who don’t want to carry binoculars, or only want a specialty monocular to measure how far it is to the hole on the golf course.
The X-View, however, belies all those assumptions. For starters is is built like a high-quality instrument, with a rubber armored body, a twist-up eyecup for eyeglass wearers, and fully multi-coated optics.
But where the X-View really shines is with its close focus: 18 inches!. That’s right, only 18 inches for this 7-power monocular to come to focus. Your head is probably further from the computer monitor or the keyboard than that. Go ahead and check!
At Spectrum, the X-View has been very popular with still-life artists who want to get a more close up view of the things they are painting. One small feature of the X-View is that it has a 1/4″-20 thread so it can be mounted to any camera tripod! The artists just set it up on a table-mounted tripod and use it to view their still-life subject!
But artistry is just one use. The X-View is great as a light replacement for full-size binoculars, great for viewing wildlife up close, birding, and more!
